A PMB at a CMRA
A virtual mailbox is a private mailbox (PMB) at a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA). USPS requires "PMB" or "#" and your box number on the address line.
Every US virtual mailbox runs under the same USPS rules. Here's what they mean for you, and what each plan includes.
A virtual mailbox is a private mailbox (PMB) at a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA). USPS requires "PMB" or "#" and your box number on the address line.
The CMRA must hold a signed USPS Form 1583 for each person or company that receives mail at the address. You fill it in online from your dashboard.
One current photo ID (a foreign passport is accepted) and one ID showing your address, such as a lease, vehicle registration, insurance policy or Form I-94. USPS doesn't accept Social Security cards, birth certificates or credit cards.
You sign in front of CMRA staff, in person or over live video, or have a notary acknowledge it, including online notarization. USPS has allowed the video option since May 2024.

PMB addresses, USPS Form 1583, recipients and fees.
PMB means private mailbox. A virtual mailbox address is a PMB at a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA), and USPS requires "PMB" or "#" plus your box number on the address line so mail reaches you.
PS Form 1583 authorizes the CMRA to receive mail for you. Every person or company receiving mail at the address needs one, with two forms of ID: a current photo ID (a foreign passport works) and a document showing your address.
Not necessarily. Under USPS rules you can sign in front of the CMRA's staff, in person or over live video, or have a notary acknowledge your signature, including through online notarization.
It depends on the plan. On business plans: Address Only covers 1 recipient, Mailbox Volume 3, Mailbox Advanced 2 with 6 users, and Verified Business Address 1 tenant with 6 users. Each recipient needs their own Form 1583.
Address Only charges $1 per incoming item. Mailbox Volume and Verified Business Address include 30 incoming items a month, and Mailbox Advanced includes 60. Monthly prices vary by location; see the pricing page.
Often not as your business's operating address. USPS flags CMRA addresses, and banks and platforms such as Stripe, Mercury, Relay and Wise don't accept mailbox addresses for that. If you need proof of address, look at the Verified Business Address plan with a lease; the provider still makes the final decision.
