    Why banks say no

A year on the road, one address

Four countries, four time zones. The IRS, your state and your bank only ever see one US address, and everything they send lands there.

Digital Nomad FAQs

Addresses, mail, banking and taxes: what to know before you set up a US company you'll run from the road.

Yes. You don't need US citizenship, residency or an SSN to own a US LLC. Our experts file your formation documents with the state and your SS-4 with the IRS for your EIN, with no US visit required. The company needs a registered agent and a US address of its own: the part that shouldn't move when you do.

Use one US business address and keep it the same everywhere: formation documents, your EIN records, bank and payment applications. Avoid your short-term rental abroad, which changes and often isn't accepted, and your registered agent address, which is for legal notices only. The Registate Office Lease gives your company a real commercial address in Delaware backed by a signed lease, so the address and the proof match.

A mailbox address receives your mail and lets you scan, forward or shred it from the app. It's great for IRS and state letters and everyday post. An office lease address comes with a signed lease for a real commercial building, which is the document banks and platforms such as Stripe, PayPal and Amazon look for as proof of address. The lease also includes virtual mailbox services, so one address can do both jobs.

Your mail is received at your US address and you get a notification when it arrives. Request a scan and a PDF is uploaded to your secure account. When you need an original, forward it to a place you can actually receive it, like a confirmed stay whose host accepts deliveries. Junk mail can be shredded with one click.

We can't guarantee approval, because each bank has its own criteria. What we can do is remove the most common hurdle for international founders: proof of address. The Office Lease, with a utility bill in your company's name when a provider asks for one, meets the standard proof of address requirements. Check each provider's recency rules too. If a bank still says no, Payoneer's USD receiving accounts are an alternative.

No. A business address belongs to your company, not to you. Your personal tax residency depends on your citizenship, where you actually live and spend your time, and the rules of the countries involved, and a mailbox or lease doesn't change that. A foreign-owned US LLC also has its own US filings, such as Form 5472, even when no US tax is due. Registate reminds you of these deadlines, but for your personal situation please talk to a qualified tax advisor.

Usually not. Registered agent addresses are for legal notices, and banks and platforms don't accept them as the place your business operates from. You need a physical office address like the one backed by the Registate Office Lease.

When a mail receiving service accepts mail on your behalf, USPS asks for Form 1583 to authorize it. Keep in mind what the form does and doesn't do: it only authorizes the service to receive your mail. It doesn't show that your business operates from that address, so it isn't proof of address on its own.

Everything is done online. A new business address is ready to use right away, and once your order is processed your signed Lease Agreement arrives by email within 24-48 hours, with physical copies mailed on request. Formation and EIN follow the state's and the IRS's own processing times, and you can track each step from your dashboard.

You don't need to forward checks internationally. We can securely deposit checks received in your mailbox directly into your US bank account on your behalf, so a client payment isn't stuck in an envelope while you're on the other side of the world.

Keep your company in one place.
